What this calculator does
Carriers often charge by dimensional weight when a parcel is light but bulky. The chargeable weight is the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight.
This calculator converts package dimensions into volumetric weight and compares it with the scale weight. Choose the divisor used by your carrier.
Volumetric weight
Volumetric weight = length × width × height ÷ divisor Common divisors are 5,000 or 6,000 for parcel carriers and 3,000 for air freight. Chargeable weight is max(actual, volumetric).

Frequently asked questions
Why is chargeable weight higher than actual weight?
Bulky parcels take up vehicle space even when they are light. Carriers convert that space into a weight equivalent.
Which divisor should I use?
Check your carrier’s tariff. Parcel services commonly use 5,000 or 6,000; air freight often uses 6,000 or 3,000 depending on the mode.
Are oversize surcharges included?
No. Oversize, fuel and remote-area surcharges are additional. The calculator shows the base chargeable weight only.
